Once upon a time, my ancestors, according to genealogical research, left Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Germany, Slovakia/Czechoslovakia/Hungary/Bohemia, Romania and Armenia to come to this land we call home. Like all people who leave their roots to settle in a new land, there were struggles. We learned to be "Americans," something that brought my grandparents pride. But, I believe that this privilege of being American comes with the responsibility to help those coming after us. With this in mind, I am once again will be writing poems, teaching poetry and collecting my students' poems for the 30 Poems in November Challenge.
Please join me during this month of harvest, bounty and thanksgiving, to support Center for New Americans in helping the new immigrants who are coming to our shores.
Blessings!
